Quantum Systems, a drone manufacturer based in Munich, has successfully completed a new Series B funding round, securing investments from Notion Capital and Porsche Automobil Holding SE. With contributions from existing investors, the company has now raised a total exceeding $110 million.

Initially, this funding round garnered approximately $71 million, led by HV Capital and DTCP, with participation from Project A, Thiel Capital, ScaleUp Fonds Bayern, Omnes Capital, and Airbus Ventures, as reported in October 2023.

The company intends to utilize the newly acquired funds to enhance its global expansion efforts and drive further innovation. Investments will focus on increasing production capacity and advancing research and development, particularly in software and AI technologies.

Florian Seibel, CEO and co-founder of Quantum, expressed his gratitude, stating, “With the support of our new investors, Porsche SE and Notion, we are not just raising capital; we are forming partnerships that will fuel essential innovations for Europe’s technological sovereignty, security, and resilience. This investment reaffirms the confidence in our mission to transform industries and create a lasting impact. I appreciate all our investors for their ongoing support — the best is yet to come. One thing is clear: without security, nothing holds value.”

Quantum’s AI-powered drones are employed across various sectors, including mining, construction, agriculture, utilities, public safety, and defense, where the ability to capture, analyze, and process aerial sensor data is crucial.

Among the company’s offerings, the Trinity Pro drone is tailored for commercial mapping, while its Vector, Scorpion, and Twister small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), along with the Trinity Tactical drone, serve military purposes.

Recently, Quantum collaborated with Airbus Defence & Space to successfully deploy a swarm of seven AI-controlled drones at the Airbus Drone Center in Manching, Germany. This trial was part of the German military’s KITU 2 (Artificial Intelligence for Tactical UAS) study, where Quantum’s Vector and Scorpion sUAS were integrated with Airbus’s multipurpose drones. The real-time merging of reconnaissance data from all drones created a comprehensive situational awareness picture, which was incorporated into the Airbus Fortion Joint C2 battle-management system.

Moreover, the Vector drones demonstrated their capability to conduct autonomous joint-reconnaissance and target-acquisition missions in GPS-denied environments, similar to those encountered in conflict zones like Ukraine.

Sven Kruck, Quantum’s chief revenue officer and managing director, stated, “Our aim extends beyond just enhancing the technological capabilities of our drones. We want to equip customers and users with tangible advantages in real-world situations. Ultimately, the focus is on safeguarding soldiers and enhancing safety. Moving forward, software-based and AI-supported systems will be essential in drone technology.”
