ABB has announced the acquisition of Eve Systems, a Munich-based company specializing in smart home products, including smart lighting, plugs, air quality monitors, and security cameras.
This acquisition will allow ABB to incorporate Eve’s innovative product line into its smart building solutions, positioning the company as a comprehensive provider for customers and marking a strategic shift from focusing solely on commercial spaces to enhancing residential environments.
ABB highlighted that this move will strengthen its position in the smart home market, particularly with products compatible with Matter and Thread, a new standard for interoperability and wireless connectivity.
“Matter and Thread represent a significant advancement in the adoption of smart home technologies,” stated Mike Mustapha, president of ABB Electrification. “These standards enable seamless integration of various devices and services, allowing users to manage their energy and environment safely and conveniently. This acquisition is a pivotal step in expanding our commitment to smart buildings into the consumer sector.”
The decision to acquire comes amid a growing demand for smart home technologies, driven by increasing consumer interest and incentives from authorities for retrofitting existing buildings.
While financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, Eve Systems will operate as an independent brand under ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division, effective immediately.
